An open letter to our baby Jordan

We can’t tell anyone about you yet. We just want to wait a month or two before we share the good news with everyone… so in the meantime you’re going to be hearing from me ALOT. See this picture above? That’s us… your brand new parental units. We didn’t know it at the time, but I was already pregnant with you in this picture.

The idea that we’re going to be on the other side of this whole parenting business is pretty crazy.  We don’t really have a clue about how to go about raising a brilliant, well rounded, polite, happy child. But here is what we do know:

1. I’m going to let you eat dirt sometimes. and you’ll probably get licked in the mouth by your doggy siblings on a regular basis.

2. You are going to have a thousand million songs written about you or in your honor.  You’ll be the only kid on the block with your very own, personalized set of lullabys.

3. We like adventures. We hope you like them too. We don’t sit around much - so when you get here, expect to be bundled up and carried along for the ride. I hope you like log cabins and laying in parks while listening to Buddy Holly.

4. I’m going to teach you how to play the tambourine. Maybe we can start a family band once I finally learn to play harmonica.

I’m sure I’ll come up with a more detailed plan later, but this is all I’ve got so far.  So let’s recap - you may occasionally have a dirt mustache, while jamming to a song your dad wrote about you, in the backseat of a car headed for the mountains, with a tambourine in your hand.  Sound like fun? I hope so.
